Our Story

Fraunhofer Foundation

INTU Diagnostics emerged from nearly two decades of research at Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (Fraunhofer IZI).

Our founders, MD Skaiste Arbaciauskaite and Dr. Dirk Kuhlmeier, were working in the MicroDiagnostics lab with a team on developing low-resource and user-friendly diagnostic solutions, creating and patenting the core technology underlying INTU's platform.

In-field testing of
C. Trachomatis in Tanzania

A feasibility study of integrated instrument-free test to diagnose Chlamydia Trachomatis in Tanzania proved our concept works in real-world, resource-limited settings. This wasn't lab theory, it was validation where it matters most.

We wandered into the savannah to test for chlamydia trachomatis in a van. The study was conducted in cooperation with the Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute and it shows that our test works well even under non-ideal conditions.

AHEAD Programme

The team behind what later became INTU Diagnostics, at that time working under the name "Discover", was selected to participate in the AHEAD programme organized by Fraunhofer Venture, marking the beginning of our entrepreneurial journey.

INTU Diagnostics was officially incorporated in March 2023 by Skaiste and Dirk. Following incorporation, the company was selected to join the Medical Forge programme in Leipzig, later renamed Leap Up, which focuses on supporting early-stage medical technology companies.

Recognition & funding

INTU Diagnostics was awarded second place in the Innovationspreis Mitteldeutschland (Innovation Prize of Central Germany), recognizing our work in home-care diagnostic solutions. We also raised close to €2 million in funding to support the development of our home-care human papillomavirus (HPV) testing platform.

2025

MIRA Project

The financing was intended to advance product development and to prepare for broader deployment of the company's home-care molecular diagnostics in cervical cancer screening and related applications - work that continues to define our mission today.
